Garden City, KS-Garden City's chances of taking the first two games on Thursday took a major hit late in the finale.
Cale Blasi homered twice including a backbreaking two-run shot in the ninth, and Dodge City topped the Broncbusters 11-7 at Williams Stadium. The loss dropped Garden City to 15-33-1 overall and 7-19 in conference.
The Conquistadors blew the game open early, scoring five runs in the second; then made it 6-0 an inning later when James Dunlap went yard.
Garden City managed to crawl back into it with a run in the third followed by Sage McMinn's moon shot in the sixth that made it 6-3. But Blasi answered with a two-run shot in the seventh to extend to the Conquistador lead to 8-3.
After the Broncbusters sliced the deficit to two with three more in the eighth, Chris Finnegan's squad missed a golden opportunity to take the lead when Dylan Garcia lined into an inning-ending double play.
Blasi then put the game on ice with one swing in the Dodge City ninth.
