Colby, KS-Starting pitching has been hit and miss for Garden City all season.
George Hettrick gave up nine earned runs including three long balls, Jake Ticer knocked in three, and Colby beat Garden City 9-3 in game three Saturday afternoon. The Broncbusters dropped to 11-29-1 overall and 4-15 in conference.
Hettrick lasted four innings, but the first was an absolute nightmare. He began the day by giving up a single, double, and a three-run homer to Ticer. Later in the inning, Blake Labuda smoked a two-run double before John Vulcano singled home the sixth run of the frame.
The Broncbusters got their first run of the game in the third when Connor Camden ripped a two-out RBI double. But the Trojans answered immediately in the home half when AJ Cortese went yard. Two innings later, Grant Biggins deposited a Hettrick fastball over the wall in right for an 8-1 advantage. That was followed by Vulcano's RBI double to give the home team an eight-run advantage.
Hettrick dropped to 2-3 overall for Garden City, which lost for the 11th time in their last 12 games.
Lubuda and Vulcano combined to go 4-for-6 with four RBI for Colby while starter Hagen Barcello struck out nine in seven innings.
