Concordia, KS-Garden City missed out on a handful of chances in the night cap.
The Broncbusters were held scoreless the first five innings, Brock Wollin went deep for Cloud County, and the Thunderbirds topped Garden City, 5-2 on Friday afternoon. It was the Broncbusters sixth straight loss, dropping them to 10-24-1 overall and 3-11 in the Jayhawk West.
Christian Womble handcuffed the Broncbusters for most of the day, fanning seven in six innings. He scattered six hits and walked five.
After scoring a run in the first, Wollin led off the second with a long ball that landed over the right-field fence. Williams Camacho-Soto was plunked with the bases loaded in the third before the Thunderbirds took advantage of a wild pitch and a balk to plate two more in the fourth.
Garden City's only offense came in the sixth. Jake Wiley singled; took second on a wild pitch; then scored when Will Gardner roped a double down the left-field line to make it 5-2. But that's all they could muster as Marlow grounded out to the pitcher.
The Broncbusters stranded a runner at third in the seventh and another at second in the eighth. Then in the ninth, Garden City brought the tying run to the plate with nobody out. But Ryan Muniz bounced into a 5-4-3 twin killing, and Sage McMinn struck out swinging to end the game.
Garden City stranded 13 runners in game two. Marlow finished 2-for-4, and Ryan Estey took the loss, allowing three runs on four hits in just two innings.
Womble improved to 7-1 for Cloud County and Connor Woods notched his fourth save.
