Griffiths in second place after round one of NJCAA Championships
Garden City, KS-To say the opening day of the 2025 NJCAA Women's Golf National Championships was an adventure would be massively underselling it.
Despite 40 mph winds, sophomore Summer Griffiths maneuvered her way into second place, posting a first-round 74-just two shots back of Seminole State's Abir Taibi for the individual lead.
Griffiths, who was 2-over after a pair of bogeys on four and five, knocked in back-to-back birdies to finish 1-over on the front. After a two-put on 10 and another on 12 and 13, Griffiths hit a powerful drive on the par-5 14th that eventually set her up for birdie. She birdied 15 as well to finish 1-over on the back.
As a team, Garden City is in 15th place with Jerika Lopez sitting in 67th place at 15-over. Fernanda Rodriguez is 78th, and Brighdy Connors is 82nd.
Seminole State is in the lead at 10-over with Odessa two shots back at plus-12.
Round two gets underway Tuesday at 10 a.m. Griffiths tees off at 10:40 a.m. CDT.
