Personal bests highlight Trojan Invite
Colby, KS-The Broncbuster cross country teams competed at the Trojan Invite on Saturday.
Women's Recap
Shareen Cheruiyot led the Broncbusters from the start but was unable to finish due to a knee injury she sustained during the race. With Cheruiyot out, Valentine Lagat took charge and finished with a personal course record of 19:42; good enough for 25th place.
Taylor Thorp had a huge breakthrough as she broke the 22-minute barrier for the first time in her career, running a time of 21:56.4 for 60th place.
Freshman Sara Chapa crossed the line in 22:09.5; good enough for 65th place. It was the second best time of her career.
Jania Don Juan ran a season best time of 22:17.6, good enough for 67th place, Andrea Serrano shattered the 24-minute barrier for the first time in her career, running a time 23:19.5; good for 74th place, and Rebecca Potts placed 77th with a time of 25:32.2.
Men's Recap
Kelvin Cheruiyot led the Busters with a 10th-place finish, posting a time of 24:40.6, tying his PR, which is the 2nd best time in school history.
Jose "Froy" Ruiz placed 65th with a time of 27:41.6; running second best time of his career. He also broke his personal course record by 20 seconds.
Matt Veloz placed 80th with his second best time of his career (28:44.6). He improved his personal course record by nearly three minutes.
Daniel Aguilar ran a personal best of 29:32.7 for 92nd place; a 50-second improvement on the course. Rosalio Ruiz stayed solid for a 99th place finish with a season best time of 30:53.2, freshman Daegan VanPelt ran a personal best time of 30:53.2, good for 100th place, Ricardo Mijares placed 102nd with a time of 31:06.8, and Edgar Ruiz placed 108th with a time of 33:03.0.
