Szpott nearly laps the field in Hays

Hays, KS-Sandra Szpott came into her sophomore as a well-oiled machine.

Now the transfer is building on a special legacy, one that puts her in the realm of some of the all-time greats that have come through Garden City.

Szpott nearly lapped the field at the Fort Hays State Open, taking home first place with a time that was more than a minute better than second-place Christa Follette from Friends University. She posted a time of 17:46.4; her team placed 10^th.

Hannah Roemer was 54^th with a time of 21:07.8, and Lordes Covarrubias finished 117^th at 22:44
