Garden City outlasts McCook in four
McCook, Neb-In front of another major conference test in Liberal on Wednesday, the Broncbusters looked sharp in their final tune-up.
Lepuissant continued her brilliant day, posting 22 kills, Tola Maczka had 45 assists, and Garden City improved to 9-5 with a four-set victory over McCook 26-24, 21-25, 25-15, and 25-10 at the McCook Invitational.
The Broncbusters nearly coughed up a late five-point lead in the opening set as the Indians fought back to tie it at 24. But Caylin Barnett committed a service error, and Gaby Santos blocked a McCook attack to put the visitors up, 1-0.
In the second, Garden City rallied from a nine-point deficit to pull to within one following Lepuissant's kill that made it 22-21. But Julia Brazil sent an attack wide, and April Conilogue blocked consecutive Broncbuster attacks to give the Indians the set.
Garden City then bounced back in the third erasing an early five-point hole with a 15-2 run that was capped by three straight Vitoria Stedile aces that gave the Broncbusters a 17-9 advantage. Lepuissant followed with a kill, and Maczka recorded an ace for set point.
It was all Broncbusters from there.
Garden City opened a 15-4 lead in the fourth, led by 14 after Maczka set up Lepuissant for a kill, then ended the match when Carly Lang blocked Barnett at the net.
