Broncbusters storm past Lamar

Garden City, KS-Judging by the results the last two nights, Garden City has put their loss to Western Nebraska in the rearview mirror.
Talia Roberts scored 16 points, Jaleah Bellany sprinkled in 14 off the bench, and the Broncbusters ripped through Lamar 82-48 Saturday afternoon at Conestoga Arena.
Lamar scored the first four points of the game before Garden City (3-1) took full command. The Broncbusters answered with a 12-0 run, which included back-to-back layups by Alyssa Boyce. They led 26-16 after one.
"Defensively, I think we are really starting to improve," Head Coach Charinee Mitchell said.
That was evident in the first half when Garden City held the Lopes scoreless for 6:23. At the same time, the offense was in full flight. Roberts drilled a 3-pointer, Bellany hit a mid-range jumper, and Kelcy McHenry connected on a driving layup, fueling a 12-0 surge that put the Broncbusters up 35-16. Garden City outscored Lamar 18-8 in the second period, and had a 44-24 lead at the break.
"We just have to continue to get better," Mitchell said. "That's our emphasis right now."
The Broncbusters stormed to the finish line in the second half, closing the game on a 30-16 run, earning their second straight victory.
DAz'Monique Johnson chipped in 12 points and nine boards for Garden City. Boyce had 11 while Roberts added five assists.
Armani Robbins paced the Lopes with 13 points in 23 minutes. Hanna Diaz added 10, but had six turnovers.
