Lamar, CO-Garden City more than atoned for their struggles on offense in game one.
Kaylee Rogers ripped three extra base hits, including a no-doubter three-run homer in the fourth, McKayla Encinias collected three this and swiped two bags, and the Broncbusters blasted Lamar 10-2 in five innings Saturday afternoon at Citizens Field.
Garden City got things going in the second. Rogers stroked a double to left, and Elisabeth McGill brought her home with an extra base hit to right. Zoee Canaday followed by hitting a sharp liner that Viviana Guzman misplayed at short, and Gaby Hernandez blasted a two-run double to make it 4-0.
After Lamar cut the lead in half in the third, the Broncbusters put the game away in the home half. Encinias singled, Hernandez was hit by a pitch, and Audrey Graf drew a bases-loaded walk. Two batters later, Megan Walz singled home a pair. That eventually setup Rogers, who mashed a three-run bomb to straight-away center, putting Garden City up 10-2.
And while Rogers was providing plenty of offense, she absolutely overpowered Lamar in the circle, striking out five while throwing only 86 pitches in a complete-game win. The sophomore also drove in three runs, Encinias was 3-for-3 at the plate, and the Broncbusters ripped five doubles.
Beverly Rehfeldt took the loss for Lamar, giving up six runs on six hits in 3 1/3.
