By Mike Pilosof
Garden City, KS-Colby scored early and often in this one.
Emily Brackett, Jayda Shaw and Whisper Doliwa all homered, Mahealani Haegele tossed a two-hit shutout, and the Trojans blanked Garden City 14-0 in five innings Friday afternoon at Tangeman Sports Complex.
Colby scratched two runs across in the first; then blew the game open in the second with five more, including Shaw's line-drive, two-run homer to left that made it 7-0. In the third, Brackett led off the inning with a solo jack before Makenna Pendergrass ripped a two-run double to stretch the lead to 10-0.
The score stayed that way until the fifth when Haley Fox cranked an RBI double, and Doliwa mashed a two-run homer. Later in the frame, Pendergrass scored on a passed ball, and Colby was up 14-0.
Starter Madison Biller was roughed up, giving up six earned runs on six hits in 1.1 innings for Garden City. Kaylee Rogers finished the game, allowing seven runs on eight hits.
Pendergrass finished 3-for-3 with three RBI for Colby. Fox, Doliwa, and Shaw each knocked in two.
