Goodland, KS-Becky Gundy's Broncbusters are officially on a roll.
Following two blowout wins over Frank Phillips on Tuesday, Garden City continued their steady play, getting a complete-game four-hitter from Madison Biller, Brittany Dowell connected on her second homer of the season, and the Broncbusters topped Northwest Kansas Tech 4-1 Wednesday afternoon.
"These girls have done a really good job the last couple of days," Gundy said. "They really haven't had a chance to be outside the last couple of weeks and get comfortable. So that's something that we are going to have to work on."
As they did 24 hours earlier, Garden City got off to a quick start. Kaylee Rogers hit an RBI double in the first for a 1-0 advantage. Then in the second, Dowell drilled a 1-2 pitch over the fence in left for a 2-0 lead.
The Mavericks got back in the contest in the third when Veronica Benetez connected on a two-out single to slice the deficit in half. But the Broncbusters stepped on their throat in the fourth. Madison Brasher plated a run on a sacrifice fly, and Biller singled hard to right to score Devin Hernandez, stretching Garden City's lead to 4-1.
From there, it was all Biller.
The freshman allowed just one hit the rest of the way (a single by Sirena Rosalez in the fifth). She finished the afternoon with three strikeouts and two walks, improving to 3-3. She also collected two hits at the plate, as did Dowell.
Kamryn Frisle took the loss for the Mavericks, surrendering four runs on 10 hits in seven innings.
