Two Broncbuster softball players sign with four-year schools
Garden City, KS-Two Broncbuster softball players signed national letters of intent on Friday morning.
Pitcher Samantha Akers inked with LeTorneau University in Longview, TX and utility player Bailey Muxlow-Volk signed with Concordia University in Nebraska.
Akers was the ace of Head Coach Becky Gundy's staff. The sophomore, who was named to the all-conference first team, finished fourth in the conference with 101 strikeouts and was seventh with a 3.85 earned run average.
"I wasn't expecting the award," Akers said during a signing ceremony at the Perryman Athletic Complex. "I just went out and did the things that were expected of me."
Akers grew up in Manor, TX and player at Manor High School. She was a multi-sport athlete for the Mustangs, playing softball and volleyball.
"I like the program and the coaches, Akers said". "It's an opportunity for me to get a little bit closer to home."
Muxlow-Volk was also an all-conference performer, finishing off a great sophomore campaign by hitting .304 with 20 RBI and 12 runs scored.
"I really liked the coaching staff at Concordia," Muxow-Volk said. "And the facilities were really nice."
The sophomore plans on studying exercise science.
"We will miss most both of these girls," Gundy said. "They were a very big part of our program this year."
