Broncbusters fall in Region VI Tournament
Dodge City, KS-Haley Fox drove in five runs, and former Garden City High School star Alyssa Long had three hits as Colby eliminated the Broncbusters with a 10-3 victory in the loser's bracket of the Region VI Tournament Saturday night at Legends Park.
The Trojans scored two runs on an error by Jessy Ortiz in the first; then made it 4-0 in the third when Haley Fox singled home a pair.
Garden City responded in the fourth. Angel Jimenez walked before Ariel Denney ripped a two-run homer to slice Colby's lead in half.
But the Trojans came right back in the fifth. Paige Farnsworth smashed a solo home run, and Fox drilled a two-run shot to give Colby a 7-2 advantage.
Garden City showed signs of life in the sixth when Bailee Muxlow-Volk pushed a run across with an RBI groundout to make it 7-3. But Colby plated three more in the bottom half fueled by back-to-back run-scoring singles by Fox and Katie Adler.
Samantha Akers started the game for Garden City and allowed four runs on 12 hits in four innings. She struck out two. Denney pitched two innings of relief, surrendering three runs on six hits.
Katelin Eastman, Marissa Croft, Fox and Long all collected three hits, while Mahealani Haegele gave up just three runs on three hits in seven innings.
