Broncbusters fall at Lamar
Lamar, CO-The Broncbusters dropped a pair of mid-week road games to Lamar 3-1 and 13-4 on Tuesday.
After falling behind 2-0 in game one when the Lopes got an RBI groundout by Alexis Johnson and a run-scoring double by Larissa Royer in the first, Garden City (10-10, 1-3) got back into the contest I the fourth, thanks to Angel Jimenez's double to center that pulled the Broncbusters to within one. After Emily Womeldorff issued a two-out walk to Devin Hernandez to put the go-ahead runner on, Bailey Brawner could not take advantage, lining out to center to end the rally.
Lamar (20-11, 10-2) added to their cushion in the fourth when Ariel Denney booted a ball at second base, scoring Royer from third to make it 3-1.
The Broncbusters managed just one hit the reset of the way: an Erica Vessels single in the fifth.
Lauren Reed picked up the win in the circle for Lamar, allowing one run on five hits in 6 innings. She struck out three and walked three.
Samantha Akers dropped to 3-2 on the season, allowing three runs on five hits. She struck out four in six innings.
In game two, Garden City fell behind again when Brawner gave up a three-run jack to Royer in the first. This time though, the Broncbusters tied it a half inning later when Jessy Ortiz cleared the bases with a two-out triple to right.
It was all Lopes from there.
Lamar plated four in the bottom of the second, fueled by RBI singles from Lauren Reed and Mackenzie Rowlett. Raylene Anaya added an RBI groundout before the Lopes scored a run on a miscue by Vessels at short that made it 7-3.
Rowlett added to her three RBI afternoon in the third, cracking a two-run single up the middle that stretched the Lopes' lead to 9-3.
The Broncbusters got a run back in the fourth on an error by shortstop Mykenzie Ferran. But the Lopes finished off the run rule in the fifth, scoring two runs on errors by Ortiz and Alyssa Dilley; followed by Royer's double to the gap that ended the game.
Brawner took the loss for Garden City, dropping to 2-2 on the season. She lasted just one inning, allowing six runs on five hits and one homer.
Reed picked up her second win of the day, scattering seven hits while allowing four runs. She struck out seven.
