Garden City drops two to Hutchinson
Garden City, KS-Garden City dropped a pair of home games to Hutchinson, losing 5-0 and 9-4 Friday afternoon at Tangeman Sports Complex.
In game one, Kameron Pope gave Hutchinson (11-3, 1-1) the lead in the third with an RBI groundout. Raven Bass mashed a solo home run in the fifth before D.J. Cannon hit a three-run bomb off of Samantha Akers in the sixth for a 5-0 advantage.
Cannon kept the Broncbuster bats off balance all day, striking out eight in a complete-game victory for Hutchinson. Akers took the loss for Garden City, allowing five runs on seven hits. She struck out four, walked four and gave up two long balls.
In the second game, the Broncbusters dug themselves into a seven-run hole. Shelby Felvus doubled home a run in the second followed by Natalie Semmel's RBI single that gave the Blue Dragons a 2-0 edge. An inning later, Brynne Stockman roped a run-scoring double, and Felvus ripped an RBI base hit off of Marissa Montiel that pushed the lead to 4-0. Hutchinson added three more in the fourth before Taylore Hartman's two-run jack in the fifth finally got the Broncbusters on the board.
But Hutchinson added some insurance in the sixth when two runs scored on an error by Hannah Adams at second base.
Stockman picked up the win in the circle for Hutchinson, allowing two runs on six hits in 4.2 innings. She fanned three and walked four. Destiny Schultze pitched 2.1 innings of relief, walking three batters.
Montiel took the loss for Garden City, allowing five runs on seven hits in three innings. Ariel Denney yielded four runs in four innings of relief.
