Day one of the Broncbuster Invite in the books
Garden City, KS-Garden City made history on Friday, hosting the first-ever Broncbuster Invite.
Men's Recap
Debonaire Williams paced the Broncbusters in the Decathlon with a total of 3081 points, leading the event. Williams tied his personal best in the 100-meter dash, clocking in a 11.34. Cameron Collins capped off the first day with a total of 2902 points, sitting in 2nd in the event. Elisha Handsaker had a great start to his decathlon debut, earning personal best in the long jump (5.54 meters), Shot Put (9.04 meters), and in the High Jump (1.72 meters). He sits with 2725 points heading into day two.
Vaai Seumalo won the men's discus with a mark of 36.63 meters, while a slew of Broncbusters set personal best performances in the Long Jump. Fabian Nava broke the seven-meter barrier for the first time in his career, setting a mark of 7.09 meters; good enough for 3rd place. Tahj Ferguson placed 5th in the event with a personal best jump of 6.73 meters. Andre Dafney continued to improve as he jumped a new personal best of 6.02 meters.
The men's 4x800 meter Relay (Ayala, Hampton, Roberson, James) took first with a time of 8:30.26. Garden City also had a second relay team (consisted of Veloz, Ruiz, Klinger, Penka) that was close behind, clocking in a time of 8:39.18. Matthew Veloz, Jose "Froy" Ruiz, and Garrett Klinger all ran personal bests in their splits.
Women's Recap
Heidy Aguilar was the top Broncbuster in the Women's Discus. She placed 2nd with a mark of 30.18 meters. Serena Degollado was close behind with a mark of 29.83 meters, good enough for 3rd place. Abby Degnan had a PR, throwing a mark of 27.09 meters.
Areli Moreno was tops in the Long Jump, placing 3rd with a personal best of 4.93 meters. Teammate Diamond Choate set a new personal best mark of 4.52 meters.
The Women's 4x800 meter relay (Cheruiyot, Lagat, Garcia, Don Juan) gutted the tough winds to win the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 11:08.80.
