Dodge City, KS-Head Charles Long has been preaching defense all season.
On Saturrday, they showed up in a big-time way.
Alexis Lopez and Garden City's own David Amaro took care of the scoring, while the defense limited the Conquistadors to just six shots on goal in a 2-0 victory.
"We absolutely dominated," Long said. "It was a good thing to see."
Lopez got the scoring going early with a goal just 1:22 into the match. The score stayed that way until Amaro blasted one through Dodge City goalkeeper Hector Cabrera Viveros at the 59 minute mark for a 2-0 lead.
"Our defense led the charge today," Long added. "Then our offense played efficient."
This was a rematch between two teams who ended up forfeiting their first matchup back on September 24 after players were issued red cards and never left the bench.
"It was something that happened; now we move on," Long said.
Garden City improved to 10-8 overall and 2-6 in the Jayhawk. Dodge City fell to 4-7-2 and 2-4-1 in the conference.
