Broncbusters fight back on day two in New Mexico
Ruidoso, NM-After a slow start, Garden City showed grit during Monday's final round at the High Country Shootout.
The Broncbusters finished 11th but showed major improvement during day two.
"That's why I wanted my guys in this tournament," Head Coach John Green said. "Those teams in Region V are good. They've got some of the best programs around, and this helps our guys out tremendously."
Garden City posted a 303 on Sunday at Sierra Blanca before coming back with a 325 on Monday. And while the scores were higher on day two, Green believes it was all part of the process.
"Watching those other teams; that's where our guys need to get to," he said. "We played some really good teams."
George Avgousti had a tremendous weekend, finishing tied for 15th at 2-over par. He shot rounds of 71, 76 and 71.
"He (George) is extremely talented," Green said. "He was our anchor in this one."
Returner Jordan Parsons got off to a great start, firing a first-round 73. But an 85 and 78 dropped him in the rankings as he finished 57th. Teammate Bryce Wharton was right behind him along with Evan McBride, who rebounded with a final-round 74 to post his best day of the tournament while Grant Burr improved his score by five strokes in the last round, shooting an 81.
Texas El Paso's Aaron Terrazas won the event, shooting three straight rounds south of 70 to finish 13-under par. Midland won the team title at 31-under.
