Broncbusters making progress at 2017 Nationals

Garden City, KS-Garden City turned things around on Wednesday to move up the charts at the 2017 NJCAA National Championships at Buffalo Dunes.
The Broncbusters shot a second-round 318 to move up two spots from 18th to 16th. Odessa added eight strokes to their score on Wednesday, but still lead the field at even par followed by Eastern Florida State, Indian Hills and Dodge City.
Jordan Bishop closed in on the top 50 after a solid finish. Following a front nine that saw the sophomore shoot 5-over, Bishop responded with two birdies on the back, and finished the final nine holes at even par. His 77 moved up him up 19 spots to 54th.
Scott Campbell also made some headway, firing a 78, bumping him up 16 slots to 57th. He converted a pair of birdies and made par on nine of the 18 holes.
Luke Russell, who paced the Broncbusters with a 77 during Tuesday's opening round, finished day two 5-over. He's +15 for the tournament and is tied for 74th. Russell had a rough start with a triple bogey and double bogey on the first five holes. But he resurrected his day with a pair of birdies on the back nine, including on 16 (564 yards).
His teammate Nathan Roy is tied for 80th while Dominic Pollock shot a second-round 82. His 161 total has him tied for 82nd.
Odessa's Van Thomas continues to lead the pack at 2-under par, parring 14 holes and knocking in two birdies. Dodge City's Mason LaGrange chipped in birdies on 2, 5, 9, 13 and 16 to shoot 2-under on Wednesday. He's 1-under for the tournament, and just a stroke off the lead.
Third round action continues on Thursday with Garden City teeing off at 8 a.m.
