Garden City, KS-With one month until the national championships at Buffalo Dunes, the Garden City golf team got a taste of what they will be up against in May.
The Broncbusters finished ninth at the 2017 Southwest Kansas Shootout at Buffalo Dunes on Tuesday. Indian Hills own the vent with Dodge City placing second.
"Our guys continue to turn the corner," Head Golf Coach John Green said. "I said it during out last tournament: they are starting to figure things out."
As a team, the Broncbusters shot a 929-firint a 319 in round one followed by 302 and 308 over the final two.
"We progressively got better," Green added. "This was a good test for our guys. There were some very good schools out here this week."
With the stiff competition, sophomore Dominic Pollock held his own, tying for 22nd with a three-round 229. He finished 13-over for the tournament.
"Dominic has proven to be one of the most consistent golfers day in and day out," Green said. "He played very well."
Luke Russell also played well, finishing 30th with a 231. He shot his best during Monday's second round, firing off a 73. Scott Campbell came in 46th with a 236 while Jordan Bishop closed with back-to-back rounds of 77 to finish 48th. Nathan Roy was right behind him at 59.
Next up for Garden City is the Region VI tournament on Monday, April 17.
