Garden City, KS-More recognition is coming Garden City's way.
On Tuesday, linebacker Krishon Merriweather was named the Jayahwk defensive player of the week, and linebacker Willie Ervin won special teams player of the week.
Merriweather leads the nation with 80 tackles. He recorded his third double-digit stop game on Saturday with 15 tackles and a fumble recovery in a 42-16 victory over Fort Scott. He had 20 tackles vs. Independence on Sept. 14 and had 20 in a 42-22 victory over Dodge City in week two.
Ervin has made his presence felt on special teams all season long. The freshman blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown during the fourth quarter of Saturday's win over the Greyhounds. He did the same thing vs. Independence two weeks earlier, giving the Broncbusters a chance at a miracle comeback in the waning seconds.
Garden City is back in action on Saturday, making the long trek to Iowa Central. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
