Mills and Raybon earn conference recognition
By Mike Pilosof
Garden City, KS-Dedrick Mills has been turning heads since he was a freshman at Georgia Tech. Kicker Ben Raybon just wanted a chance at Division-I.
Now, after a medical redshirt year, Mills has come back stronger than ever. And his 262-yard, four touchdown performance vs. Coffeyville earned him Jayhawk Conference Player of the Week honors while Raybon earned co-special teams player of the week.
"It's so fun watching him run," offensive lineman Lacolby Tucker said. "We give him a little space, and then can watch him work."
With Charles West sitting out, Mills took center stage, carrying the ball 44 times and averaging six yards per carry. He had a dazzling 51-yard run that setup a score in the second quarter and had three touchdowns in the first half.
The sophomore leads the nation in rushing with 1,291 yards in eight games and combined with West, are the first Broncbuster backs in 40 years to register 1,000-yard campaigns in the same season. Mills has recorded six 100-yard rushing games and has gone over 200 three times.
Raybon drilled eight extra points and had Coffeyville pinned deep in their own end all night. He recorded three touchbacks and had two other kicks that resulted in tackles inside the 15.
