Garden City, KS-20 years ago, Broncbuster running back James Elliot powered his way through opposing defenses.
20 years later, his son is set to follow in his footsteps.
All-State defensive lineman Demarcus Elliott announced Sunday on twitter his commitment to play football Garden City Community college.
"I want to thank Coach (Jeff) Sims for believing in me," Elliott said. "I am proud to say I am 100 percent committed to Garden City Community College."
Elliott will go down as one of the best players to ever come out of Garden City High School. His numbers during an incredible senior season speaks for itself.
Elliott notched 81 tackles including 18.5 for loss, 3.5 sacks and an interception his final year, leading the Buffaloes into the third round of the 6A playoffs. He had three, double-digit tackle performances including a 14-stop game in an upset win over Topeka in round two. He had 10 tackles against both Hays and Great Bend.
"I play with a chip on my shoulder all the time," Elliott said. "That's how I approach it, and I don't plan on changing anything."
27 years ago, Elliott's father, James, carved out his own legacy at Garden City, rushing for 1,175 yards as the Broncbusters' feature back. Demarcus plans on making an impact on the other side of the ball.
"It's exciting to continue my football career," Elliott. "I just want to play."
