Kansas Defensive Player of the Year signs with Garden City
Garden City, KS-In High School, Dillon Williams wreaked havoc throughout the Great West Activities Conference. This past week, the Holcomb linebacker made it known that he plans on doing the same in the Jayhawk.
Williams, the two-time reigning, 4A-II defensive player of the year, signed a national letter of intent with Garden City Community College.
"Garden City felt like home," Williams said. "This was a perfect opportunity to stay around my family and play college football. And I'm playing for a proven winner."
Williams is a winner himself, having led Holcomb to their first football state championship as a junior registering 145 tackles, five sacks and an interception. During his senior campaign, Williams tallied 137 stops, a career-best six sacks, two forced fumbles and a blocked field goal. In three years on the varsity, Williams recorded an incredible 539 tackles and 15 sacks.
"When we first started the recruiting process, I said we work from the outside in and I meant it," Garden City Coach Jeff Sims said. "We signed guys from Garden City and now from Holcomb. They will be the core of what this program is built off of."
Asked if he would consider a position change, Williams was very direct with his response.
"Whatever it takes to get on the field," Williams said. "Whether it's fullback or whatever. The college game is much faster than high school, so whatever the coaches want me to do."
