Broncbusters blank Western Nebraska
Scottsbluff, Neb-One big inning changed everything.
Wyatt Buckley hit a three-run homer as part of a seven-run fourth, six pitchers combined to allow just four hits, and Garden City blanked Western Nebraska, 8-0 Tuesday afternoon to improve to 5-26 overall.
Starter Caleb Metzen pitched two scoreless innings, walking two for Garden City, which earned only its third win in its last 18 games. Jonah Candelaria picked up the win in relief tossing one inning of no-hit ball.
After Garden City grabbed the lead on Brittain Brewer's RBI fielder's choice in the second, the Broncbusters exploded in the fourth. Garden City sent 10 men to the plate and scored seven runs. Grant Ryan pushed a run across on a fielder's choice, Brogan Bar followed with an RBI single, and Ryan came home on a Western Nebraska fielding error. Later in the inning, Buckley blasted a three-run shot over the centerfield wall for an 8-0 advantage.
Ryan and Joshua Miller each drove in two runs for the Broncbusters.
Juian Garza took the loss for Western Nebraska, allowing three runs on two hits in three innings. He walked four and struck out four.
