Garden City run ruled in series opener with Ranger
Ranger, TX-Matthew Lorencz didn't last long.
The redshirt sophomore allowed six runs in just two innings of work, Tui Amosa and Robert Oropeza combined for five RBI, and Ranger thumped Garden City, 13-3 Friday afternoon. The loss dropped the Broncbusters to 1-11 overall.
Garden City's pitching woes continued in game one of the three-game set. After Lorencz was pulled in the third, Zevin Little promptly surrendered a run. JP Harris yielded two, and Jonah Candelaria gave up four in a wobbly sixth inning.
On the other side, Louis Castano was solid, scattering seven hits while giving up only two earned runs in six innings.
And his offense gave him plenty of cushion.
Ranger scored three runs in the opening frame; then added three more in the third, fueled by Oropeza's two-run double that made it 6-0.
After Brett Barber crushed his first homer of the season in the fourth, a two-run bomb to center to get Garden City on the board, the home team answered with three in the bottom half. Amosa added a two-run single in the sixth, and Joshua Comeaux hit a sacrifice fly to make it 11-3.
