Garden City drops home opener
Garden City, KS-Matthew Lorencz got off to a promising start on Monday.
But it didn't take long for it to spoil.
Jason Juarbe homered and collected two hits, Cameron Teinert struck out five, and Southeast took the series opener from Garden City, 11-4 at Williams Stadium. I
The Broncbusters, which dropped their home opener to fall to1-7 overall, committed three errors and stranded seven runners.
Juarbe turned Lorencz's positive beginning into a mirage. Juarbe mashed a no-doubt-about it two-run homer to right field in the second, and then added two more runs in the third, the first on a sacrifice fly and the second on an error by shortstop Brittain Brewer that put the visitors up 4-0.
Lorencz's day was done after that. But it really didn't matter.
Reliever Zevin Littell immediately gave up a single to Peyton Moore, and Jase Carpenter ripped a two-run single to make it 6-0.
After Garden City got two runs back on Nick Barber's single in the fifth, the Bobcats opened the floodgates with a three-run seventh.
Lorencz lasted just 2 2/3, giving up five runs on two hits. Littell yielded a run on two hits, and Harris Robinson surrendered four runs in just an inning of work.
Teinert scattered six hits and gave up two runs in 3 2/3 innings for Southeast, which won their season opener on Monday.
