Garden City falls to Pratt in game two
Garden City, KS-The Broncbusters couldn't get anything going in game two.
Jacob Trombley and Garryn Plummer each drove in three runs, Curtis Anderson struck out seven, and Pratt blanked Garden City, 12-0 Thursday night at Williams Stadium. It was the Broncbusters fourth straight loss, dropping them to 5-21 overall and 3-7 in conference play.
Caleb Cox used five pitchers starting with John DeCoste, who gave up five runs in just over an inning of work. Daylin LeBlanc and Stephen Roozendal each surrendered two, and Peyton Walters made his season debut coming out of the pen, giving up three runs in the eighth.
Offensively, the Broncbusters were limited to just one hit, their fewest in a game since April 19, 2019, when they were held to just one hit in a 4-0 loss to Colby at home.
Things went south in the second inning for Garden City. Trailing 1-0, Decoste plunked Oscar Gallardo and walked Michael Acosta to begin the inning. Ben Waliczek followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0. Two batters later, DeCoste issued a free pass to Mark Valdez before Acosta sprinted home after a passed ball. Moments later Trombley singled home a pair, and Pratt was up 5-0.
The Beavers scored two more in the third and two more in the fourth. They induced the run-rule with a four-run eighth which was fueled by catcher, Connor Thompson's error when he threw the ball into center field that allowed two runs to score.
The Broncbusters lone hit came in the first when Konner Hatfield stroked a two-out single. Other than that, Garden City produced just seven baserunners the rest of the way.
