Schmeckpeper resigns as Head Softball Coach
Garden City, KS-After three seasons at the helm, Amy Schmeckpeper resigned as head softball coach on Tuesday.
"Coach Schmeckpeper will definitely be missed," Director of Athletics, Mike Pilosof said in a statement. "But she has a tremendous opportunity to coach at the next level."
Schmeckpeper departs to become the new head coach at the University of Mary, an NCAA Division-II program located in Bismarck, N.D.
"Coach Schmeckpeper did some really good things during her time in Garden City," Pilosof added. "She got this program going in the right direction."
During her tenure, the Broncbusters were 71-85 (.455) overall, which included a 25-20 mark in 2021. That year, they finished 17-9 in conference play, earning a share of the Jayhawk West crown for the first time in program history.
Her teams were also a staple in the classroom, earning a cumulative 3.5 grade point average each semester she was here. During the spring, Broncbuster softball posted a 3.7 team GPA, earning NJCAA All-Academic status.
Assistant Coach, Paige Hightower was named interim head coach while the college conducts a nationwide search. Previously, Hightower spent time as both an assistant basketball and softball coach at Louisiana College.
