Broncbusters can't hold lead, fall to Colby in finale

Garden City, KS-Emily Sauvageau homered, Kiley Avery and Kaylee Sheets each had two hits, and Colby outlasted Garden City, 19-12 Wednesday afternoon at Tangeman Sports Complex. The loss dropped the Broncbusters to 11-20 overall and 5-9 in conference play.
This was a missed opportunity for Amy Schmeckpeper's team, who erased an early 5-0 deficit to take a 7-5 lead once Alanna Neilsen homered in the fifth. But Colby roared back with a six-run sixth to take an 11-7 advantage. And even after the Broncbusters evened the score with a pair of homers by Cadence Mallet and Savanna Griebling in the bottom half, the Trojans finished hammered out eight runs in the seventh. It was half inning in which Colby sent 13 batters to the plate, collected five hits, and took advantage of four walks and an error.
CJ Sherman fell to 3-3 in the circle, giving up nine runs on seven hits in just over an inning of work. Starter Alexis Garcia yielded five runs on three hits in 2.1 frames.
Abby Sima picked up the win for Colby, giving up 12 runs on 13 hits. She struck out nine and gave up four home runs.
