Garden City loses finale to Hutch
Hutchinson, KS-A big first inning put this game away early.
Alexis Mastin was one of three Blue Dragons to homer, Allie Stipsits knocked in three runs, and Hutchinson completed a sweep of Garden City with a 12-3 victory in game two on Friday afternoon. The loss dropped the Broncbusters to 11-18 overall and 5-7 in conference.
Garden city starter Tori Olson lasted just a 1/3 of an inning, allowing five runs on five hits on only 18 pitches.
After Lacey Kearsley homered in the first to give Garden City the early lead, the Blue Dragons put up a crooked number in the bottom half. Olivia Sandoval tripled home a run, Madison Grimes followed with an RBI double, and Mastin smashed a two-run homer to make it 4-1. Moments later, Hutchinson hit Garden City with another big blow when Riley Wertz devoured a 3-2 fastball over the center-field wall for a three-run homer and a 7-1 advantage.
Hutchinson added four more runs in the second capped by Stipsits three-run homer that gave the visitors an 11-2 lead.
Besides Kearsley's homer in the first, Kelsi Gaston's RBI double in the second, and Keely Porter's towering solo shot in the fourth, the Broncbuster offense really struggled, producing just five hits.
Morgan Pennycuff picked up the win for Hutchinson, fanning three in four innings. She allowed three runs on five hits.
