Broncbusters lose opener to Hutch
Hutchinson, KS-Delaney Blakesley and Riley Wertz combined for seven strikeouts, Alexis Mastin knocked in two runs, and Hutchinson shutout Garden City, 4-0 on Friday afternoon.
Lacey Kearsley, who returned to the circle this week after offseason surgery, allowed four runs on nine hits in six innings for the Broncbusters. But, she didn't have much help as the top four batters in the order were a combine 0-for-12.
Mastin got the Blue Dragons on the board in the first with a two-out, two-run single to make it 2-0. They scored again in the third on Jaeleigh Darnell's run-scoring single before adding some insurance in the sixth.
Meantime, Garden City squandered a chance in the second when they had two on with two out. But Shiloh Johnson lined out to the pitcher to end the threat. The Broncbusters then went in order the next two innings. In fact, Amy Schmeckpeper's team had just two baserunners over the final four innings.
