Garden City rallies for game-two victory over Seward
Liberal, KS-Merieth Robinson, Shiloh Johnson, and Madison Mays all collected two hits, Tori Olson scattered just four hits, and Garden City beat Seward County, 3-1 Wednesday afternoon. The win moved the Broncbusters to 9-15 overall and 3-5 in conference play.
Olson was steady for third-year coach, Amy Schmeckpeper, throwing just 95 pitches in a complete-game victory. After serving up a solo homer to Marisela Landa in the second, the freshman hurler retired the next eight hitters. She allowed just three hits the rest of the way.
Garden City's offense was held in check until the sixth. Lacey Kearsley stroked a two-out, RBI single to tie the game before Madison Mays's base hit put the Broncbusters in front. Jasmine Hall followed with a run-scoring single, and the visitors had a 3-1 advantage.
Olson then worked around a two-out double in the sixth by getting Landa to tap out to short. She worked a one-two-three seventh.
Aaliyah Gutierrez was charged with the loss, allowing three unearned runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings for Seward, which lost for the eighth time in their last nine games.
