Hunter nabs second NJCAA Player of the Week award
By Mike Pilosof
Garden City, KS-On Wednesday, Broncbuster freshman point guard, Tone Hunter nabbed his second NJCAA National Player of the Week honor.
Hunter led the Broncbusters to a 3-0 mark with victories over Independence and Colby. Against the Pirates, he dropped 30 points and was 11-of-11 at the free throw line in 34 minutes. Two nights later, he helped Garden City dig out of a 12-point deficit with less than 90 seconds to play to beat the Trojans. He scored 27 points, pulled down five rebounds, had four assists, and three steals. It was arguably the most improbable win in recent memory. Hunter then followed that up with a 20-point, three rebound outing less than 24 hours later as Garden City completed a season-sweep of the Trojans and won their ninth straight game overall.
For the season, the freshman from Las Vegas is second in the conference in scoring, averaging 20.4 points per game. He's first in free throws made (102) and second in assists (88).
Garden City, which moved up three spots to No. 18 in the latest NJCAA rankings, hosts eighth-ranked Dodge City on Thursday night at 7:30.
