Garden City, KS-The Broncbuster football team is ranked seventh in the first poll released by the NJCAA on Monday.
"I say this every year, it really doesn't matter where you start; it's where you finish," Head Coach, Tom Minnick said. "Talk to me in a couple of months."
Garden City was one of three Jayhawk Conference schools included in the top 15. Hutchinson was ranked third and Independence was 10th.
"I firmly believe that whoever wins this conference, should be playing in the National Championship Game," Minnick added. "We've got some really good teams, and this is the toughest league in the country."
The Broncbusters closed last season ranked ninth in the nation following a resounding victory over Navarro in the inaugural Scooter's Coffee Bowl. They have now been ranked in 65 out of the last 70 polls. In fact, they had a streak of 51 straight appearances snapped in week five of last season.
Defending national champion New Mexico Military opens the season at No. 1 followed by Iowa Western.
Garden City begins the year at Butler on Saturday, Aug. 27. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Buster Vision.
