Broncbuster men claim Tabor Invite title; women finish second

Hillsboro, KS-The Broncbuster cross county squads had a big weekend at the Tabor Invite with the men winning the team event and the women coming in second.
Men's recap
Dennis Mutai, who is off to a fantastic start to the fall season, won the individual title with a time of 24:17.86. The freshman broke the school record in the 8k and was one of the top performers at the meet.
Meantime, Kelvin Cheruiyot took second with a time of 25:52.86, landing him 12th all-time on the school's 8k performance list. Angel Ayala just missed a personal best, finishing third (27:27.08), Jose "Froy" Ruiz posted a new PR of 27:30.33-good for fifth place, Eli Handsaker took 13th (28:54.97), and teammates Matt Veloz and Daniel Aguilar joined the sub-30-minute club with their 17th and 18-place finishes respectively.
Women's recap
The Broncbuster women continue to make major strides in 2021. Their second-place finish on Saturday was fueled by Shareen Cheruiyot, who took second with a time of 19:37.42. It was the fourth best mark in school history in the 5K. Teammate Valentine Lagat was right behind at 19:38.70, good for third overall and the fifth best time in program history. Jania Don Juan was ninth, posting a personal best 21:49.60.
Taylor Thorp made the biggest leap for the Broncbusters with a 14th-place finish. Her time of 22.57.23 was more than 2:30 better than her high school personal best in the 5K. Additionally, Andrea Serrano came in 21st (25:23.03) with teammates Meagan Burkhart and Rebecca Potts coming in 24th and 26th.
