Garden City, KS-The Broncbusters missed a golden chance at an upset.
Lucia Rivas scored the go-ahead goal in the 62nd minute, and Cowley edged Garden City, 3-2 Wednesday afternoon at Broncbuster Stadium. The loss dropped Corey Bryant's team to 4-8-1 overall and 0-7-1 in conference.
Garden City answered every Tiger right cross with a counterpunch. After Esther Attwood put Cowley ahead 1-0 18 minutes into the match, the Broncbusters responded with Carys Grieve's goal, which was all setup thanks to a beautiful cross delivered by Abbie Hulme. Once the Tigers jumped back in front 10 minutes later, it was Hannah Duncan connecting on the equalizer in the 54th minute.
But Cowley, which outshot Garden City 25-5, landed a knockout blow in the 62nd minute when Lucia Rivas knocked home a rocket from 15 yards out to make it 3-2.
Garden City had a chance in the final five minutes to draw even, but Alba Lopez denied Nancy Espino with a diving save to preserve the win.
Karime Silva, who made her first start of the season, recorded 10 saves for Garden City.
