Zac Miller Named Head Women's Golf Coach
Garden City, KS-Even after stepping away from the game, Zac Miller was always a golfer at heart. Now, he's back and leading one of Garden City's newest programs.
Miller was named the Head Coach of the Broncbuster women's golf team. He will take over the men's program as well following the 2022-23 season.
"We are so grateful for President Dr. Ryan Ruda, Vice President of Student Services, Colin Lamb, and Athletic Director, Mike Pilosof," Miller said. It's been a process in the making, and my family and I are grateful for this dream to become a reality."
Miller, 36, came to Garden City as a wide receivers coach in 2019 following a three-year run tutoring the defensive backs at Eastern Arizona. After a year under Coach, Tom Minnick, Miller was hired as the assistant residential life director.
"I got a chance to know Zac when he first arrived on campus in 2019," Director of Athletics, Mike Pilosof said. "What I learned was that he is always willing to put the work in. I also knew he was a really good golfer, which he proved while serving as a volunteer assistant for the men's golf team the last couple of years."
Don't be deceived by Miller's football background, which included a stint as a wide receiver and defensive back at New Mexico Military and then North Alabama. But golf was always his passion.
He worked as a golf professional at Grayson Valley Country Club as the first assistant PGA apprentice before taking a job at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Ross Bridge in Hoover, AL. He also worked at Inverness Country Club.
"I worked to grow the junior program constantly with the country club," Miller said. "We watched juniors move on to have success both at the high school level and further on collegiately. It is one of the best feelings.
The Birmingham, AL native resides in Garden City with his wife, Shawndee and their four kids: Noah (21), Miah 18), Leilah (12), and Aliviah (2).
"Our men's program has been very successful over these past few years," Pilosof added. "And with the tremendous job the high school has done producing top-tier golfers in Garden City, and the connections Zac has built over the years, we fully expect our women's team to compete at a very high level."
