Broncbusters get final tuneup before indoor regionals
Wichita, KS-The Broncbusters put together a solid meet at the Wichita Invite over the weekend.
Women's Recap
Meagan Burkhart made her debut in the pentathlon, setting an all-time personal best mark in the shot put (8.64 meters) as well completing in her first ever 60-meter hurdles (13.74) as well as the 800-meter run (3:05.36). She ended the day with a score of 1160, finishing 12th overall.
McKenna Jagels and Areli Moreno both put together personal bests in the high jump, clearing 4'6 and 4'4 respectively. Moreno then came back and had a PR in the long jump (14'11.25)
Diondra Wilborn took seventh in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.20; then finished 10th in the 200 (26.68).
Shareen Cheruiyot finished seventh in the mile run with a time of 5:25.77, which was just a few seconds from the national qualifying standard. Teammate Jania Don Juan posted a PR of 6:22.52.
Cielo Garcia set a new personal-best time of 2:55.98 in the 800 meters, while Andrea Serrano was close behind in her 800-meter debut, clocking in at 3:01.27
Valentine Lagat was impressive in the 3000-meter run, taking third (11:31.88), and the women's 4x400 meter relay (Erica Davis, Cielo Garcia, Cheruiyot, and Burkhart), took fifth with a time of 4:39.56.
Men's Recap
In the heptathlon, Debonaire Williams took seventh, marking a personal best improvement in the 60-meter dash (7.25) and 60-meter hurdles (8.67). Cameron Collins posted his personal best score of 3883 points. He leaped 20'2.25 in the long jump, posted a mark of 6'0.75 in the high, ran a 9.70 in the 60-meter hurdles and then a 3:12.03 in the 1000-meter dash.
Meantime, Amari Hampton took eighth in the high jump with a season-best mark of 5'10.85. Fabian Nava and Tahj Ferguson both placed in the triple jump with Hampton taking sixth (43'11.25) and Ferguson placing seventh with a mark of 41'7.
Shaun Johnson paced the Broncbusters in the 60-meter hurdles, placing third in the finals (8.74). Jaden Powell was ninth (9.70), and Jockque Randell set a new PR (9.90).
Jereun Wagner was ninth in the 60-meter dash (7.04), and Nava set a PR with a time of 7.28.
Dennis Mutai was ninth in the mile with a time of 4:29.56, his second-best mark of the season. Teammate Edgar Ruiz also set a PR (5:15.18).
Hampton took ninth in his debut in the 600-meter run (1:28.39), Maliek Roberson was the top Broncbuster in the 400-meter dash (51.75)-taking third, Isaiah Armstrong and Powell placed fourth and seventh with times of 51.85 and 52.50.
Wagner won the 200-meter dash, sprinting 26.68 seconds while Roberson was 10th (23.33).
Kelvin Cheruiyot fell just short of the national qualifying mark in the 3000-meter run, clocking in at 8:58.46; good for third place. Jose "Froy" Ruiz recorded his first sub-10-minute time in the event (9:56.70) while Ricardo Mijares hit 10:22.48.
Elsewhere, the men's 4x400-relay team (Roberson, Armstrong, Wagner, and Powell) ended the night with a second-place finish (3:28.92).
