Indira Colon is the new assistant coach specializing in the throws and strength. She joins
the staff after coaching for three years, working with men and women’s shot put and strength
and conditioning at Omaha Burke High School in Omaha, Nebraska.
Colon started her collegiate career at Iowa Western Community College in the following events:
Shot put, discus, hammer, and weight throw. After suffering a season ending injury her freshman
year, Colon went on to win the NJCAA Region XI Indoor Weight throw and NJCAA Region XI
outdoor Discus titles becoming a two-time NJCAA national qualifier in the indoor shot put,
weight throw, and the outdoor discus and hammer throw.
Colon broke the school record for the weight throw and was also a 2nd Team All-Region
recipient at IWCC.
After graduating from Iowa Western, Colon went on to finish her collegiate career with two
seasons of eligibility at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She placed 5th in
the Shot Put at the Chicagoland Athletic Conference Championships.
Colon majored and graduated in Sport Management. She was Coached by Emmett Statzer at Iowa Western (2012-2014).
