Big day for Garden City women at Jayhawk Classic

Lawrence, KS-Garden City is closing in on some national qualifying times.
The Broncbusters competed at the Jayhawk Classic at the University of Kansas, led by Mone Octave. The freshman ran a top-eight time to advance to the finals in the 60-meter hurdles before losing control at the third hurdle. She's still ranked 12th in the NJCAA and fifth in the Jayhawk Conference. Octave also competed In the 200 meters, where she finished fifth with a time of 26.91 seconds.
Meantime, Destiny Huyler qualified for the finals in the 60-meter dash, finishing sixth overall. Shienne Pierre ran a career-best in the 400 meters-knocking off two seconds from her previous mark (1:02.87). Her teammate, Alexandria Telfair, also ran a lifetime best in the 200 meters, clocking in at 27.29 seconds—good for 13th place.
Sheridan Rodriguez, who qualified for both indoor and outdoor Nationals last year, finished fifth in the high jump. She was just a quarter shy of the national qualifying mark. Rodriguez is ranked second in the Jayhawk.
The Broncbusters' 4x400 team of Huyler, Pierre, Lillie Burnett and Octave, came in eighth with a time of 4:14.15. That's the fastest mark that team has recorded in four years. They are currently ranked seventh in the nation and second in the Jayhawk.
Garden City returns to action on Friday at the Texas Tech Open.
