Columbus, NE-Chalk this one up to another learning experience for Garden City, who continues their steady improvement.
48 hours after suffering a frustrating defeat in La Junta, the Broncbusters gave themselves every chance to win on Saturday. But they simply ran out of time and dropped a 3-2 decision to Central Community College.
"The girls were much better this afternoon than they were at Otero," Head Coach Corey Bryant said. "We were our own worst enemy though. We made a couple of mistakes in our defensive half, and both of those led to first-half goals."
The first of those errors occurred in the 13th minute, leading to Mei Hou's goal that got the Raiders on the board. After Garden City grabbed the equalizer on Catherine Small's first career score, another mistake in their own end setup Madison Hurst, who found the back of the net, giving Central a 2-1 advantage.
"I can't fault our effort at all," Bryant added. "We played hard from start to finish. The ability to connect with each other is something that we have worked on and discussed numerous times. Today, they got to see it work a bit."
The raiders pushed their lead to 3-1 in the second half when Madison Garrow got loose and knocked a ball past Kaylee Keller in the 79th minute.
Garden City came back five minutes later when Small delivered a perfect ball to Noeli Munoz, who finished at the net.
Keller recorded two saves on the day, while Small scored a goal and had an assist.
