Dodge City comes from behind to clip the Broncbusters
By Mike Pilosof
Dodge City, KS-During Charinee Mitchell's tenure as head coach, there haven't been many games that she wanted back. Saturday will go down as one of the rare exceptions.
Addison Rowley scored a career-high 20 points on 6-of-9 shooting, and Dodge City overcame a double-digit deficit to beat Garden City 62-55 at the Student Activity Center.
Garden City led by six after one and was up 26-16 after Talia Roberts triple with 4:11 left in the half. After that, everything seems like a blur.
The Broncbusters didn't score for the rest of the second quarter while Ashley Nelson hit a layup, and Allie Baker nailed a 3 to pull the Conquistadors within five, 26-21 at the intermission.
In the second half, Dodge City took the lead on Nelson's jumper with 2:08 to play in the third. They were up one going to the fourth.
With the game tied at 49, Daz'Monique Johnson hit a midrange pullup to put the Broncbusters up two with 4:16 to play. But the Conquistadors quickly tied it on Nelson's answer at the other end. A couple of possessions later, Dodge City took the lead on Baker's driving layup. Rowley, Fredrionna Adams and Baker hit 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch, and the Conquistadors held the Broncbusters to just two points over the final 2:09.
Dodge City won the game despite turning it over 18 times and shooting just 37 percent (19-of-52). They were 5-of-17 on 3s and missed 11 free throws.
Roberts led Garden City with 17 points but missed 13 of her of 18 shots. Jaleah Bellany had 11 and Johnson chipped in 11 points and nine rebounds.
