Garden City run-ruled in opener vs. Barton
Great Bend, KS-Chloe Enslinger, Elina Bartlett, and Karter Alvord all homered, Meleia Ingram recorded her 13th win striking out nine, and Barton topped Garden City, 12-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Alvord drove in four runs, and Aly Lawrence was 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Cougars, which improved to 24-9 overall and 18-3 in conference play.
Garden City, which tied for their third fewest hits in a game this season with four, fell to 19-14 overall and 11-8 in the Jayhawk. Alyssa Santana provided the Broncbusters lone RBI.
Enslinger's two-run homer in the third capped a three-run inning for Barton. Bartlett went deep in the fifth, and Ava Fink drove in pair with a line-drive single to center to make it 7-0. Then in the sixth, Alvord hammered a towering grand slam over the center-field fence to enforce the run-rule.
The Broncbusters lone run came in the fifth when Santana hit a solo home run off Ingram. But Garden City went down in order after that.
Yina Ballesta Vargas only made it through four innings although she didn't have much help behind her. Garden City committed four errors.
