Garden City, KS-In game one, the Broncbusters overcame plenty of adversity. In game two, that magic finally ran out.
Leah Rivera and Sheridan Wayne each went yard while combining for nine RBI, six Lopes collected at least two hits, and Lamar topped Garden City 17-8 Wednesday afternoon at Tangeman Sports Complex.
As they did in the opener, the Broncbusters fell down immediately as Megan Walz surrendered three runs in the top of the first. But Garden City wasn't down for long. In their half, McKayla Encinias singled and scored on Audrey Graf's two-run triple, Madison Biller pushed a run across on an error, and the game was tied 3-3.
In the second, Lamar went back on the attack. Mireya Arranda had an RBI groundout, Alicia Fraire scored on an error by Vivian Lopez in left, and Wayne slapped a run-scoring single past Encinias at short to put the Lopes up 6-3.
Garden City then slowly chipped away again. Audrey Graf singled home one in the home half of the second, Ellie Walters blasted an RBI triple in the third, and Elisabeth McGill followed with a run-scoring single to tie the game again.
It was all Lamar from there.
Rivera's three-run blast in the fourth put the Lopes up for good. Morgan Reed added an RBI single later in the inning, and Frairie plated two on a double to the gap in left-center to make it 12-6. Then in the fifth, Wayne erased any doubt with a three-run homer to dead center.
Walz was tagged for 12 runs on 11 hits in 3 2/3 innings. Biller tossed two innings of relief, allowing three runs on four hits. Encinias finished 3-for-3 at the plate, and Graf drove in three runs.
Wayne, who provided plenty of offense in game two, picked up the win in the circle for Lamar, not allowing an earned run in 3 2/3 innings. She also collected three hits.
