Garden City, KS-Ariel Denney was simply dominant.
The sophomore allowed just two hits in seven innings, Madison Biller drove in two runs, and Garden City blew past Northwest Tech 7-1 Friday afternoon at Tangeman Sports Complex.
Denney did not allow a hit until Allysa Wilmoth doubled in the fourth. The only other hit she surrendered was a single to Bre Hillin in the seventh.
The game stayed scoreless until the third. Megan Jankiewicz walked; took second on a groundout; then scored on Biller's double to the gap to put Garden City up 1-0.
After the Mavericks tied the game in the top of the fourth on Wilmoth's RBI double, the Broncbusters surged in front a half inning later when Kimberlee Kunshick booted a ball at short allowing Sydney Odle to score from second.
In the sixth, Garden City went for the kill. Devin Hernandez doubled to left, Jankiewicz singled her home, Denney and Biller followed with run-scoring singles, and Kaylee Rogers knocked in two more with a two-out base hit to make it 7-1.
Denney improved to 8-7 in the circle. She struck out two and walked one. Rogers went 2-for-3 at the plate, and Biller was 2-for-4.
Kamryn Frisle was the losing pitcher, surrendering six runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings.
