Four Broncbusters land on the all-conference team
Garden City, KS-The Broncbuster softball team made a postseason splash with four players landing on the all-conference team.
Pitcher Samantha Akers made the first team while first basemen Bailee Muxlow-Volk, shortstop Erica Vessels and utility player Taylore Hartman were honorable mentions.
Akers finished her career in Garden city with a fantastic sophomore campaign. She was fourth in the conference with 101 strikeouts (she average 5.3 per game, which was fifth in the region), and was seventh with a 3.85 earned run average. She fanned eight batters vs. Northwest Kansas Tech, Dodge City and Butler.
Muxlow-Volk finished the season hitting .304 with 20 RBI and 12 runs scored. She recorded seven multi-hit games and twice drove in three runs in a game vs. Dodge City and Seward County in an 11-0 rout of the Saints on April 15.
Vessels will go down as one of the best power hitters to come through Garden City. She belted 11 home runs (6th in the region) and finished 16th in the conference in RBI with 33. She had a .639 slugging percentage and hit .303. She was named the national player of the week after hitting four home runs in a single game vs. Northwest Tech on March 31. For the series, she smashed five out of the park and drove in 13 runs.
Hartman was one of the most consistent hitters for Head Coach Becky Gundy. She finished with a .329 batting average, four homers and 20 RBI. Her 13 doubles were eighth most in the conference.
