Broncbusters cross country returns to action after two-week break
By Mike Pilosof
Iola, KS-Considering that the Garden City men's cross-country team hadn't ran in almost three weeks, Saturday's results will go a long way in bolstering a season that's already been full of challenges.
Freshman and Garden City native Angel Ayala paced the Broncbusters with a 36th place finish notching a time of 29:07.82 in the men's 8K at the 2020 Red Devil Duals at Allen Community College.
"Adversity builds character, and more character builds a better person," Head Coach Emmett Statzer said afterwards.
The 29 minutes was the second-best time of Ayala's career. He was joined by teammate Johnny Lozano, who finished 54th with a personal best 31:39.06. Behind him was Eli Handsaker, who placed 55th (31:48.71), Jose Ruiz 59th (33:48.33), and Erick Almaraz 62nd (34:39.65). As team, the Broncbusters placed 7th.
"Our team has faced a lot of adversity the past couple of weeks," Statzer added. "It's a testament to how hard they've worked just to get back on the course."
Next up for Garden City-a date in Canyon, TX at West Texas A&M on Friday.
