Rogers qualifies for Nationals at Cavalier Relays
Overland Park, KS-Denim Rogers capped off another successful outing for the Broncbuster track team.
The sophomore finished third in the 60-meter hurdles and third in the pole vault and long jump at the Cavalier Night Relays on Friday.
"We are slowly getting better," Head Coach Doug Marshall said. "We are not where I would like us to be right now, but our kids are working hard each week."
Rogers qualified for indoor nationals in the 60-meter hurdles, recording a time of 8.32 seconds. Dodge City's Tyrin Lewis won the event followed by Tre'juan Cash from Hutch. In the pole vault, Rogers vaulted nearly 13 feet, tying Park University's Zachary Graham and Benedictine College's Matthew Sluder for third place. He was also third in the long jump, leaping 20 feet, 5 inches.
Other finishers included Jabrionne Bacon, who was 10th in the 400 meters. Tre McClary was just three seconds off his teammate's pace, taking 14th at 57.10. Manuel Hallum was 16th in the 600 meters, while Oscar Guzman posted a time of 2:09 in the 800 meters, good for eighth place. Guzman was also 12th in the 1000 meters behind teammate Edgar Avalos, whose time of 2:53.84 was good for 11th.
Garden City next heads to Lubbock for the Texas Tech invite on Friday.
