Kansas City, KS-All season long, Garden City has made their name on the defensive end.
The same held true in Thursday's playoff opener vs. Kansas City. Unfortunately the offense failed to produce.
Kansas City scored three second-half goals as the Blue Devils beat the Broncbusters 4-0 in the first round of the Region VI Tournament.
"We played very well defensively," Garden City Head Coach Scott Westbrook said. "We controlled most of the match."
Guilherme Grave ended up being the Broncbusters undoing.
The sophomore scored the game's first goal at the 18-minute mark; then assisted on Reed Axthelm's score early in the second half.
"We made a couple of mistakes on the defensive end in the second half and fell behind," Westbrook added."
Axthelm's goal came two minutes after Ricardo Angelo made it 2-0 seven minutes into the final period. Abdulrahmen Khalid finished off the scoring with the game-sealing score in the 86th minute.
"We had to play catchup pretty much the entire match," Westbrook said.
Garden City finished the season at 7-10 while Kansas City advanced on to play Cloud County on Sunday.
